【摘要】:Thesetestmethodsaredesignedtocharacterizethetoughnessofplasticsintermsofthecritical-stress-intensityfactor,KIc,andtheenergyperunitareaofcracksurfaceorcriticalstrainenergyreleaserate,GIc,atfractureinitiation.Twotestinggeometriesarecoveredbythesetestmethods,single-edge-notchbending(SENB)andcompacttension(CT).Theschemeusedassumeslinearelasticbehaviorofthecrackedspecimen,socertainrestrictionsonlinearityoftheload-displacementdiagramareimposed.Astate-of-planestrainatthecracktipisrequired.Specimenthicknessmustbesufficienttoensurethisstressstate.Thecrackmustbesufficientlysharptoensurethataminimumvalueoftoughnessisobtained.ThesignificanceofthesetestmethodsandmanyconditionsoftestingareidenticaltothoseofTestMethodE399,and,therefore,inmostcases,appearherewithmanysimilaritiestothemetalsstandard.However,certainconditionsandspecificationsnotcoveredinTestMethodE399,butimportantforplastics,areincluded.ThisprotocolcoversthedeterminationofGIcaswell,whichisofparticularimportanceforplastics.ThesetestmethodsgivegeneralinformationconcerningtherequirementsforKIcandGIctesting.AswithTestMethodE399,twoannexesareprovidedwhichgivethespecificrequirementsfortestingoftheSENBandCTgeometries.Testdataobtainedbythesetestmethodsarerelevantandappropriateforuseinengineeringdesign.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.ThereiscurrentlynoISOstandardthatduplicatesthesetestmethods.PendingISO/CD13586coverssimilartestingandreferencesthistestmethodfortestingconditions.
